Fustel is a Ph.D. candidate in Public Policy at UNC Charlotte, specializing in economic policy.
His research focuses on environmental, energy, and fiscal policies, with additional expertise in
applied econometrics and global studies. His dissertation examines the growth-environment
nexus in developing countries through an integrated theoretical and empirical framework. Prior
to starting his doctoral studies, Fustel earned a master’s degree in Applied Economics, with a
concentration in Financial Management, from UNC Charlotte.
Since 2023, Fustel has taught large sections of Principles of Macroeconomics in the Belk
College of Business at UNC Charlotte. He also served as a teaching assistant for graduate-level
courses, including Advanced Microeconomics, Advanced Macroeconomics and Advanced
Micro-econometrics. Fustel’s academic work is grounded in strong quantitative and analytical
training, with expertise in panel data analysis, categorical outcome models, environmental
economic modeling, and climate-development research.
Fustel is a U.S. Air Force combat veteran who completed two overseas deployments. In addition
to his academic and military experience, he has demonstrated strong leadership through his
service and campus engagement. He is an active member of honor societies, including Omicron
Delta Kappa, Phi Kappa Beta and the National Society of Leadership and Success and former
president of the Graduate Public Policy Association (GPPA). His interests include photography,
videography, and travel.
